Economic Highlights - Inflation Rate Inched Up To +1.6% Yoy In May - 18/6/2010

The headline inflation rate inched up to 1.6% yoy in May, from +1.5% in April and after hovering at +1.2% to 1.3% in the first three months of the year. This was the fastest rate of increase since inflation returned to positive growth in December last year, indicating that price pressure is gradually building up. Still, the pace of increase appears to be manageable. Higher inflation during the month was due to a pick-up in food & non-alcohol beverage prices, while the core inflation rate remained stable.
